There is nothing original for me to say that 'we are surrounded by the beauty of nature'. Nature provides both the inspiration and often the raw materials to produce great art. From Jon Cronin's adapted natural objects to Cristine Sunduist's plein air paintings, artists continually look to nature for new ideas and beauty.
I am lucky enough to live in an inspirational and beautiful place. Even as a silversmith, this continual flooding of the senses brings on a desire to create. Artists who visit Osage County, Oklahoma, or the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve are given an extremely large dose of nature's wonder. From the rolling prairie grassland with their herds of mustangs and bison to the wooded hills, there is so much to be discovered and recorded here. The Native Americans of the region recognize the sacred nature of this beauty.
Found objects often find their way into my work and those of other artists. It is our way of 'bringing home' a small piece of the joy we find in a place. The 'wonder of nature'.
Tallgrass Art Gallery and School will be offering workshop/retreats in the coming year to help visitors discover and record this beauty through photography, plein air painting and sculpture. We are so proud to be able to offer this experience to people unfamiliar with this areas diverse landscape and inspiration.
